Business Team Building - Things That Consultants Don't Let You Know

Team Building is about personality - yours! The amount of info spread across the western world gives a smorgasbord of selections for business. Concepts are fine but I've found the practicalities another issue and so will you! Team building takes work but the results are worth it. The essential ingredients are forbearing and time.

If you truly want to build a team which will achieve excellent results you can. If your organization is trying to put into effect a quality management system then team building will be an essential component of this system. Over the years team work has been the flavour of the day with many businesses spending substantial money in making an attempt to achieve a positive and harmonious team structure.

Some have found the results they looked for but many have not. An ISO 9001 consultant might prefer you to believe that if you follow a collection of principles or guidelines then it'll all work out. Not so as you can't put all homo sapiens in a box and expect likeminded consistency. Team building has a number of foundation building blocks that are needed for a team to function.

Some chiefs and owners get excited about team possibilities only to become tired over time where the pressures of business and day to day life grind them down. Your commitment by way of your action and time are vital to your groups success.

It takes time to build groups. Trust and respect have to be earnt and there are no short cuts. Make a call to pay the cost and demonstrate your commitment. Life sometimes throws us a curve ball and only some of our plans go according to the script. Make a promise to bide your time and as long as you see incremental progress, you will realize progress is progress.

Learn to celebrate your successes as a team as you go along and learn from failure. Failure is an amazing teacher if you look at it that way. If you own the business or are a manager realize that you are especially under inspection of your team more so when failure occurs. Your reaction to change and failure will at last decide the amount of faith in you, you achieve from your team.

As business owners we are occasionally afraid to delegate. Start with small things and as your team gets confidence and does the proper thing increase the responsibility. Be fast to benefit from one another. The most unlikely team member could be sitting on the solution you've been trying to find in your business.

Many managers and staff are terrible listeners. Learn to hear what folks are actually announcing and do not devalue their contributions. It's been mentioned that youngsters need 7 compliments to counteract one negative statement.

How much more critical then is it to help your team. Anybody can condemn however a good manager and team member knows ways to give genuine encouragement. Show genuine interest.

Before starting my business I once took control of an organisation that was almost beyond repair, no quality management system, or indeed any kind of system was in place . By applying these principals and by listening and resourcing workers I took the company from a damaging loss to a significant profit inside 1 year. This was a complex business with complex folks and serious mistrust issues. The price tag to me was emotional dedication to change and to listen - it worked.

There's a price to pay for success and no short-cuts. The effort you put in will establish the result. You can do it - apply some of these elements and you may achieve results. Don't adopt a herd mentality and be a follower. Pay the price be a leader, a trail blazer and show some personality - its worthwhile. Nothing worth having is gained or appreciated by minimal effort.
